Museum Services in Milton Keynes
There are four Museum Services Organisations that undertake educational, exhibition and community services for Milton Keynes. These are:

1. Milton Keynes Museum

Formerly the Museum of Industry and Rural Life, Milton Keynes Museum is an independent Museum Service that specialises in collecting the social and industrial items of the Milton Keynes area. It also manages an extensive Schools Loans Box Scheme as part of its educational services.

Situated off McConnell Drive at the Southern Gateway to Wolverton on the former Stacey Hill Farm site, it is constantly developing its buildings, exhibition and display areas, including a Victorian Street, Hall of Transport and Schoolroom. It also provides excellent light lunches and teas and has ample free parking spaces for both cars and coaches.

2. Buckinghamshire County Museum
Based in beautifully restored, old buildings in the ancient heart of Aylesbury Town Centre, Buckinghamshire County Museum provides a showcase to the County’s rich heritage, including precious items from the Milton Keynes area.

Alongside an ever-changing programme of exhibitions in the Buckinghamshire Art Gallery and interactive fun in the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, the County Museum has something for everyone.

3. Cowper and Newton Museum
Situated in the Market Square of the picturesque town of Olney, in the northeast of the Milton Keynes area, Cowper and Newton Museum combines a look at the lives of two local people of national importance – the poet William Cowper and the anti-slaver and writer of the hymn Amazing Grace the Reverend John Newton.

It also offers a traditional local museum feel, looking at the local trades of the Olney area and amongst its collections offers its very own dinosaur! Amongst its events is its participation in the annual Olney Pancake Day Race and the Olney Victorian Christmas Fayre.

4. Bletchley Park


Bletchley Park is more than a museum. It is an internationally important historic site telling the story of codebreaking and its contribution to the war effort in the Second World War.

Formerly a country house and grounds, Bletchley Park grew rapidly to house the vital military buildings needed to crack German and Japanese codes and played a major part in the allied victory.

Today it is open to the public as a museum, as a park and gardens and as a commercial venue for weddings, conferences and major events.
