Children`s Services

Everyone shares responsibility for making sure children are kept safe and their needs are met, as a parent, family member, friend or neighbour, employer, staff member or volunteer. In these roles, members of the community also help support children and their families in the challenging job of parenting.

If you believe that a child may be suffering, or may be at risk of suffering significant harm, then you should always talk to Children's Services by ringing the Referral and Assessment Hub (during office hours) on 01908 253169/70 or the Emergency Social Work Team (out of office hours) on 01908 265545. Alternatively, you can contact us at children@milton-keynes.gov.uk.

To help Children's Services do their job try to give as much information as you can, for example the child's name, address, age, ethnic origin, details of other family members and the reasons why you are worried about them. If you do not have all these details, it is important ring anyway and not wait until you have them all.

If you are able, it is also better to talk to the family about your worries first and explain to them that you are going to talk to Children's Services. However you should not do this if you think by doing so you would increase the risk to the child. It is also helpful if you are able to give us your name and details, these will not be passed onto the family without your permission.

When children's services receive your information, we will undertake an assessment to decide if we need to take further action so that the child can be kept safe. Although we like to keep people informed as far as possible about what has happened, we are not always able to do this for reasons of confidentiality.
