The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Catriona Morris joined thousands of visitors who helped to celebrate the launch of the Milton Keynes Music Hub held at Middleton Hall, the centre:mk recently.
The event included live performances from local schools, the Music Service, the Youth Service and MK Rock School, interactive workshops for percussion and string instruments, and information stalls and presentations for families.
Milton Keynes Music Hub brings together local and international music providers, including Milton Keynes Music Service, Yamaha, The Stables, Milton Keynes City Orchestra and schools across the borough to provide and promote music education to children, young people and families.
David Rose, Head of Milton Keynes Music Service, said: “This is the first time such a large scale collaborative partnership has been organised to provide young people with the opportunity to experience and discover how wonderful music can be.
“The new partners of the Milton Keynes Music Hub are working together to ensure that anyone aged 2-18 who wants to learn an instrument or find out more about music will be able to do so.”
Graeme Surtees, Head of Learning and Participation at The Stables, said: “It’s fantastic to be working alongside so many partners who are passionate about bringing music to local young people.
“As part of our work together, The Stables is delighted to be bringing world music organisation, Musiko Musika to work with three primary schools in Bletchley and Water Eaton. The Milton Keynes Music Hub was vital in making this possible and we hope that the partnership will help to build a vibrant music-making scene for the young people in Milton Keynes.”
