Friday 8th February 2013

The final stages of the redevelopment works at Wolverton Station commence next week. Contractors will move onto the site to complete the exterior works of this major project which began in June 2011 with the construction of the station building.

The exterior works will be split into two phases. The first phase will see the completion of the new pedestrian access and car park on the Stratford Road bridge side of the new station building which will enable it to be opened to public use. During this phase there will be no change in the current access arrangements to the station.

After this, the second phase work will be undertaken at the car park entrance to refurbish this area and build the drainage connection to the foul sewer. There should be minimal disruption to users of the station during the works however during the second phase the method of accessing the car park and pick up area will vary on a number of occasions as the contractors work in different areas but still maintain access. Notices will be erected on site to alert station users to the changes prior to them being implemented.

In total the two phases of work should take around 10 weeks to complete. Service users will then be able to take advantage of the new and improved exterior to the station area which will compliment the new station building and the improved facilities within it such as the passenger toilet, ticket office, train information screens and seated waiting area.

Milton Keynes Council was appointed to project manage the redevelopment of the station area and has worked alongside London Midland, Network Rail, the Wolverton Steering Group and local councillors as well as other stakeholders to ensure that the development remained sympathetic to the Victorian buildings around it. The station area is vital to the local community not only for its historical importance but also for the vital transport links it provides to the area.

The council would like to apologise for any inconvenience that the redevelopment may have cause station users and the delay in completing the project however every effort was made by the council to limit the disruption to station users and the residents of Wolverton whilst these issues were being resolved.

If you require any further information about the project please contact the project manager Andrew Jackman, Milton Keynes Council on 01908 252531 or email andrew.jackman@milton-keynes.gov.uk

Why is the hut only on one side of the track? Why cant people get to the station without walking all round the corner when coming from Wolverton high street, there is no shortcut. Why isn't there a lift to the platform?
