New Council Tax Reduction Scheme Announced
Milton Keynes Councillors have agreed to a locally-tailored Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
Under the scheme, everyone of working age will be expected to contribute to Council Tax, while new incentives to work provisions will make it more worthwhile to work than to remain on benefit.
Changes to Council Tax Benefit
Press Release
Recent legislation has given local authorities the power to determine classes of discount and from 1 April 2013, Milton Keynes Council has adopted the following changes.

We advise our customers on how to claim discounts, exemptions and reliefs on Council Tax and Business Rates. Collect money quickly and efficiently and, wherever possible, we will be flexible with our payment plans to suit our customers' personal circumstances.

We are required under Section 6 of the Audit Commission Act 1998 to participate in the National Fraud Initiative (NFI). Council Tax Data will be provided to the Audit Commission for NFI and will be used for cross-system and cross authority comparison for the prevention and detection of fraud.

In 2011/12 we achieved a record Council Tax collection rate of 97.8%. This beats our previous best of 97.4% collected in 2010/11.
