Council Tax Discounts

The full Council Tax bill assumes that there are two adults (aged 18 years or over) living in a property (as their main home). If only one adult lives there as their main home, the Council Tax bill is reduced by 25%. This is known as a single person discount.
Discounts for empty properties changed from 1st April 2013.
Where no adult occupies a furnished dwelling as their sole or main residence (known as 'second homes') the discount was set at 10%. From 1 April 2013 this discount has been removed thereby placing second homes on the same basis as normal homes with a nil discount.
From 1st April 2013, if a property becomes empty and unfurnished it will attract a 100% discount for a maximum period of one month, then a nil discount (100% charge) for the remaining period.
