Background information on the Gambling Act 2005

The Gambling Commission regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain, with the exception of the National Lottery and Spread Betting. The Gambling Commission are also responsible for issuing operating and personal licences.

The Gambling Act 2005 transfers all responsibility for the licensing of gambling premises from Licensing Justices (at the Magistrates Court) to Licensing Authorities (the Local Authority). Licensing Authorities are also responsible for a number of different permits, as well as temporary and occasional use notices. Please click here for the full list of responsibilities.
