Housing Strategy and Development

The aim of the Housing Strategy and Development team is:

• To enable the affordable, sustainable housing that is needed in the Borough.
  

The team's work includes:

• Analysing the housing needs of the Milton Keynes community
  
• Producing strategies that will identify ways in which the housing needs will be met
  
• Enabling housing development and in particular affordable housing development throughout the borough.

Opinion Research Services (ORS) were commissioned by Milton Keynes Council and English Partnerships to undertake a Strategic Housing Market Assessment 2008, which includes a comprehensive study of current and future housing requirements and housing need. The assessment was undertaken to inform local policies, in particular the new Housing Strategy and the Core Strategy (part of the Local Development Framework)

The draft Milton Keynes Strategic Housing Market Assessment is currently out to public consultation. The consultation period closes at 12 noon on Friday 9th January 2009.

The Council has a legal duty to consider the housing conditions throughout the borough and the need for more housing accomodation.

In line with Government advice, we consider all the relevant aspects and come to some conclusions on the best way to deal with current and future needs (over 3 to 5 years) in the Housing Strategy.

The Young Persons' Housing Strategy 2007-10 identifies the housing needs of young people in Milton Keynes. It also includes an action plan that provides ways in which the identified needs will be met.

The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Housing and Social Care Strategy 2007-2010 identifies the housing and social care needs of BME communities in Milton Keynes. There is an action plan that shows how these needs will be met.

The Local Housing Strategic Partnership is a sub group of the Local Strategic Partnership

The Local Housing Strategic Partnership meets three times a year to discuss strategic housing issues.
