Who needs to notify us?
Any business or premises that wishes to licence their venue within the Borough of Milton Keynes needs to notify us.
Why do you need to notify us?
Milton Keynes Council are regulated by SECTION 26(1)(bb) OF THE MARRIAGE ACT 1949 and the MARRIAGES AND CIVIL PARTNERSHIP (APPROVED PREMISES) REGULATIONS 2005

Am I required to submit any additional documents?
In addition to the notification form, you need to include three copies of a plan of the premises showing the room(s) in which it is intended that marriages and civil partnerships will take place.

Can my notification be turned down?
Yes Local authorities have the power to refuse the licensing of premises. The premises must satisfy the local authority on fire precautions and health and safety provisions.
Should I expect an acknowledgement?
We aim to acknowledge your notification (by email or phone) within two weeks of receipt
How long will it take for my notification to be processed?
We aim to complete the administration surrounding a new license venue notification form within eight weeks
If I don’t hear from you for 28 days, can I assume it’s been granted (‘tacit consent’)?
No you need confirmation from us as a Local authority.
What happens next?
The premises will be inspected for suitability before approval is granted and, if this application is successful, may be subject to subsequent inspection.
A Public notice of the application will be given by advertisement in a local newspaper with a period of three weeks for objections.
How long does the notification last and what is the renewal procedure?
You are required to renew your licensed venue notification every three years. However, if a change subsequently occurs to a venue or room, this needs to be notified to the local authority within 1 month of its occurrence. There is no prescribed form for deregistration however this information must be received in writing from the company holding the licence.
