Support and Advice for Young Carers

A young carer is anybody under the age of 16 years who is living with or looking after somebody who has a long term illness, a physical disability or a mental health problem.

If you are a young carer you will probably spend a lot of time doing things for other people who cannot do those things for themselves. Examples are helping someone to bath, giving someone their medicine or keeping an eye on someone if they drink too much alcohol or take dangerous drugs.

This means they can miss out on important things like school, sports, hobbies and socialising because they’re so busy helping out or they are worried about the person they look after.

Our children's services teams can offer support and advice. To get in touch with them, call the duty social worker on 01908 253169 or 253170.
