Updated
Proposals are currently under discussion to alter the Council’s Core Strategy before it is submitted to the Secretary of State for Examination in Public. This is to address the revocation of the Regional Spatial Strategy (South East Plan) by the SoS on 6 July 2010. Up to this point the publication stage of the Core Strategy preparation process had been reached.
Based on the previous letter from the SoS on 27 May 2010, where he had indicated that he intended to abolish RSS’s, the Council agreed on 8 June to put the Core Strategy on hold pending further guidance from the government
Following the resolution of the Council and subsequent letter from the SoS referred to above, there have been two recent meetings of the Local Development Framework Advisory Group on the 5 August and 26 August where this has been subject to further discussion and consideration. There was particular reference paid to housing targets and the level of growth for Milton Keynes.
There is now a proposed meeting on 9 September where a further report will be considered which will then be followed by a delegated decision of the relevant Cabinet Member, Councillor Galloway, to formally consider and recommend changes to the Core Strategy. This will then be put to full Council for determination on 14 September. If agreed, the changes will be subject to a six week period of formal consultation on the proposed changes.

LDF Advosory Group 28th August
The role of the LDF Advisory Group is set out in the report in more detail on the supplementary paper, “What next for the core strategy,” on the 28th August agenda.
This is a clear statement that Milton Keynes is ‘open for business’ and that the Council is taking this matter very seriously. It is letting the local communities know at the earliest opportunity the direction it is taking following the abolition of the RSS and removal of the imposed housing targets.
Members of the LDF Advisory Group have made it also very clear that they wish to hear from all interested stakeholders. There is an opportunity to make any representations to the Advisory Group at the next meeting on 9 September.
If you interested in making any representation on the proposed changes in writing please send these to Ian Haynes, Chief Spatial Planner
ian.haynes@milton-keynes.gov.uk. Similarly, if you wish to address the LDF Advisory Group directly then please contact Ian Haynes.
Please note that the changes under consideration are limited to reflect the changes following the revocation of RSS’s. It is not an exercise to review the whole of the core strategy.
Although the relevant agenda papers are required to printed and published in advance of the meeting, we will still accept comments up to the 9th September. It would be advised to make contact with Ian Haynes as soon as possible to indicate your intention to address the panel or, to formally write to us on this matter.
Historic Information. The Publication period for the Core Strategy ended on 31/03/2010. We can no longer recieve any comments on this document.
Milton Keynes Council has reached the next stage in the preparation of its Core Strategy. Following several rounds of public consultation and gathering evidence, on 12 January 2010 the Core Strategy was approved by Full Council to be published for Pre-Submission comment. This was the last opportunity for people make comments on the 'soundness' and legality of the Core Strategy before it is examined by an independent Inspector. A summary leaflet provides an introduction to the Core Strategy and how the current stage has been reached.
Core Strategy Summary Leaflet
The Core Strategy was available for comment on its legality against planning regulations and the document's soundness for a period of 6 weeks between
Wednesday February 17th to Wednesday 31st March. All the publication documents, including the Core Strategy, are available below.
Paper copies were also available in Milton Keynes libraries and the Civic Offices from Wednesday February 17th.
The Council is now summarising the main issues raised in all valid representations. The summary of issues will be submitted to a Government appointed Planning Inspector to consider as part of a public examination of the doccument. Individual comments will be available to view shortly on
