Electric Vehicle Charging Bays Have Now Arrived in CMK

Milton Keynes Council has installed 25 charge points, capable of charging 50 electric vehicles, in Central Milton Keynes - for locations of these please visit the
Parking Map
Parking will be offered free of charge to electric vehicles when parked in these designated spaces, irrespective of whether the vehicle is charging. Non electric vehicles will be able to use the electric vehicle spaces during the core hours of 10am – 4pm, subject to the existing restrictions (e.g. pay and display).
As well as free parking, we will also be providing free electricity as an additional incentive for drivers considering a purchase of a sustainable and environmentally friendly electric vehicle.
In order to access the free electricity, users must pre-register to become a member of the scheme. This is to prevent unauthorised use of the free electricity e.g. by travelling fairgrounds, kebab vans, etc.
When a member of the scheme, the user will be issued with an RFID swipe access card that 'unlocks' the cover over the plug point on the charge post and allows them to plug their vehicle in to charge. It also then locks their vehicle in so that it can't be unplugged by an unauthorised person.
To become a member visit
www.chargemasterplc.com, click on "charging schemes" and then "milton keynes" or telephone 020 7495 5270.
The annual cost to become a member of the scheme is £50. This gives free electricity and parking in Milton Keynes and also allows access to other charge posts outside of MK, details included in the membership pack of where you can use.
Payment is either by credit or debit card or cheque. For electric vehicle owners without internet access that wish to become members of the scheme, either telephone the number above or use the free internet terminals at the Milton Keynes Library or Civic Offices.
The membership pack contains map of all charge posts in and out of MK that can be used and also the access card (valid for one year).
A small number of electric vehicles are already on the market and you will see more and more appearing over the coming years. Earlier this year the Council signed an agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance to ensure UK delivery priority will be placed on requests for electric vehicles from Milton Keynes. A government incentive will be available from 2011 to discount 25% of the cost towards electric vehicles (up to the value of £5,000). The installation of charge points in Milton Keynes is part of a national pilot, called Plugged in Places, part funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles. Milton Keynes was awarded grant funding from government to undertake this project, and depending on its success may receive additional funding in future years to install further charge points in CMK and outer areas. The two other Plugged in Places local authorities are Transport for London and One North East. For details on the Plugged in Places scheme in Milton Keynes e-mail
