Music in Schools
A large part of the work of the Milton Keynes Music Service is instrumental teaching in schools. We are funded by Milton Keynes Council and Central Government to work with pupils in schools and at present we teach over 5,000 students throughout the city.
Pupils wishing to learn an instrument at school should contact their schools to ask about the arrangements for starting lessons and the cost. Students normally receive 34 lessons during the accademic year. Please enquire at your school for details.
Instrumental tuition in schools can sometimes be arranged directly with the Music Service in agreement with the schools if, for some reason, lessons cannot be purchased through the school.
Many schools offer whole class tuition to year 3 or 4 pupils on keyboard, guitar, percussion or recorder led by teachers from the Music Service.
Pupils learning in schools are always encouraged to support their learning by taking the opportunities offered at the Music Centre, such as playing in ensembles.
Instrumental tuition is also offered by the Music Service on Saturdays and weekday evenings.
The Music Service also offers training and support to class teachers delivering National Curriculum music lessons.
