More Milton Keynes parents are getting wise to the benefits of using real nappies.

For 2010, the cash-back reward for purchasing real nappies remains at £35 (or £40 for those receiving means tested benefits).

Over 20 million disposable nappies end up in landfill sites each year from Milton Keynes babies. This costs taxpayers around £400,000 in collection and disposal. We are adding to our growing waste disposal problem and affecting the environment for future generations.


Each child has in the region of 4,000 to 6,000 nappy changes from birth to potty (averaged at 2.5 years). This equates to 4.5 trees in wood pulp and around one tonne of disposable nappies being placed into landfill for every child.

Modern washable nappies are the alternative. They are easy to use, easy to wash, save parents hundreds of pounds, tackle global warming, cut waste going to landfill and look cute. Milton Keynes Council will even give you £35-£40 towards your costs.

Parents who buy real nappies can claim up to £40 of their costs back from the council as a reward for reducing a tonne of nappy waste from going to landfill. Just fill in the application form in the Milton Keynes Council Guide to Real Nappies and send it to us along with your original receipts, a copy of your child’s birth certificate or your maternity certificate and a copy of a utility bill as proof of residency.
