The Environmental Protection Act 1990 requires businesses that produce waste to dispose of it in a legal way. They will need to arrange for a collection via a registered waste carrier and will expect to recive a 'duty of care' note in exchange. This DOC note proves that they have complied with the legislation and disposed of their waste in a legal manner.
Milton Keynes Council does not provide waste collection services itself: all the council's waste services are provided in partnership with a waste contractor.
Businesses requiring commercial collections are advised to seek prices from a number of suppliers. This Business Waste Recycling Directory is a good place to start!
If you wish, the council can make arrangements for you with a private contractor, but in which case the council has to charge an administration fee on top of the contractor’s charge.
Businesses can take trade waste to one of the
Community Recycling Centres, but charges apply. However, hazardous trade waste such as tyres or asbestos will not be accepted at any price.
If your business has large quantities of any item that the council collects in the pink sack (card, paper, plastic bottles or cans) the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) will usually allow you to take them there FREE OF CHARGE. You will need to call 01908 225000 to arrange this. The MRF also processes a wide range of other materials such as plastics.
