Residual Waste Treatment Facility - diverting black sack waste from landfill

Quarterly Recycling Newsletter - Green leavesMilton Keynes Council is intending to build a Residual Waste Treatment Facility (RWTF) to dispose of "black sack" waste in a sustainable manner, avoiding the need to send it to landfill which is both costly and environmentally damaging.

The cost of disposing residual or "black sack" waste to landfill is set to increase significantly in the foreseeable future. Landfill taxes are increasing year on year in an effort to drive waste away from landfill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Added to this, landfill capacity is simply running out nationwide, making it essential to find an alternative solution.
