Births, deaths and marriages

Copy Certificates

If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership occurred in Milton Keynes, then we will hold the record. If the birth, death, marriage or civil partnership occurred anywhere else then you need to contact the Register Office for that area.

If you were married in a church in Milton Keynes, then you must contact the church in the first instance to see if they are still holding the register.

To obtain replacement copies held in Milton Keynes Register Office you can apply by either:

The quickest and easiest way to apply is by ordering online, using a credit or debit card.

Or visit our office in person and complete an application form. The fee can be accepted by credit/debit card, cheque (with a banker's card) or cash.

Or you can write to us giving us all the details i.e. full name, date and place of event (and in the case of a birth - both parents full names) with a stamped addressed envelope and a cheque or postal order made payable to Milton Keynes Council.

Certificates cost £10.00 each and will be ready within 3 working days. We can either arrange for you to collect in person or post it to an address of your choice. If the certificate is being posted you will need to either supply a stamped addressed envelope or pay the price of postage of a first class stamp.


Enquiries about adoption should be addressed to the General Register Office Adoption Section. Certificates from the Adopted Children Register can be made online via Adoption Records or by telephoning the GRO on 0300 123 1837.

If you have very little or no detail regarding a registration aside from a name, then you can contact the General Register Office who can do a more indepth search for all the districts in England and Wales. Click here for the General Register Office
