The team includes a health visitor, a midwife, housing options workers and an Asian women's specialist. An Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) works with MK ACT and offers support in the community and to survivors who are taking court action against their perpetrator. The Freedom Programme, a facilitated support group for survivors, is available several times a year as well as legal advice from a local family law solicitor. MK ACT aims to cater for all victims of domestic violence regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, disability or age but will prioritise cases based on the level of risk. In a minority of cases, domestic violence does not reflect conventional power relationships, for example where there is domestic violence in same sex relationships or where women are violent to male partners. Such cases are neither the same as - nor symmetrically opposite to - men's violence towards women. There are currently no perpetrator programmes being run in the UK for same-sex domestic violence or for female perpetrators. Services for LGBT survivors and heterosexual men experiencing domestic violence are not well developed. Further research needs to be undertaken to support the development of specialist services which can provide appropriate interventions for all that suffer domestic abuse. |
