MK AHCG News and Information
On Friday 12th March 2010 the Anti Hate Crime Group with partners from the Safer Communities Unit held an event at Pink Punters to raise awareness of hate crime and community safety. Speaking to over a hundred people the team gave out leaflets and 'MK Against Hate Crime' campaign wrsitbands, explained what hate crime is and encouraged victims who hadn't reported to come forward to the Anti Hate Crime Group for advice and support. Hannah O'Neill from the Group said 'It's fantastic that Pink Punters engage with this work, traditionally victims of hate crime don't report which means they don't get any support, we are trying to build confidence in communities and let them know there are alternative mechanisms to reporting so they feel confident reporting, having the opportunity to speak to people in a venue they feel comfortable in is a huge help'.
On Saturday 20th February 2010 the MK Anti Hate Crime Group attended an event organised by Thames Valley Police and Pink Punters to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month. The event was held at the Xscape building in Central Milton Keynes and aimed to raise awareness of hate crime and encourage engagement between the Police and community.
