Heron Lodge
Milton Keynes Council Sheltered Housing is designed for people aged 55 years and over. It provides a safe, secure and supportive environment for people wishing to live independently in their own home. The Sheltered Housing Officer is on duty Monday to Friday for tenants advice and support, however, they do not provide personal care but can assist you in accessing recognised agencies who provide this service.

There is a charge for the Sheltered Housing Officer service. If the tenant is claiming Housing Benefit , Income Support or Pension Credit they will not have to pay for this service. They may still be able to receive assistance with the cost of the service even if you do not qualify for these benefits. For further information on help with paying for the Sheltered Housing Officer please contact the Supporting People Team on 01908 253558 who deals with payment of support service charges for qualifying tenants.

Each Sheltered Housing Scheme has between 25 and 40 self-contained properties. Each group of properties are referred to as a "Scheme".

Our properties are all fully self contained and equipped to enable the tenant to live independently. Other facilities available within the scheme, for the use of all tenants include:
  • Communal Lounge
  • Laundry and drying area
  • Communal Garden
Tenants are encouraged to organise and participate in a variety of social activities both in the scheme and within the local community, with the assistance of their Sheltered Housing Officer.

The types of properties available include one and two bedroom flats, one and two bedroom bungalows, and flatlets. Most properties are suitable for wheelchair users, with some being fully adapted with flat floor shower and lowered kitchen units. Depending upon your mobility needs, some schemes may be more suited to you than others, for example a minority of schemes do not have a lift.
