A Safer Journeys to School project is based around physical engineering measures on the school journey. The aims of the Safer Journeys to School project are:
to improve the safety of the journey to and from schools by reducing the risks encountered on the school journey and increase children's road safety awareness.
to support our targets to reduce the number of children travelling to school by car, thus improving congestion around schools and improving air quality.
to promote alternatives to the private car, such as walking or cycling for all or part of the journey and encourage pupils to become healthier and fitter.
We are only able to work with a very small number of schools per year (usually 3) on a Safer Journeys to School project.
Traffic Management Outside Schools
If your school isn't eligible for a Safer Journeys to School project this year, you can still make requests for road safety measures under our Traffic Management Outside Schools project.
The Traffic Management Outside Schools project aims to reduce or resolve minor requests such as signing and lining around schools.
