M1 Junction 14 Improvements

For the latest progress report on the works, click M1 Junction 14 Newsletter.

See below for further background information.

The Need for Improvements
• Milton Keynes is one of the fastest growing areas in the country and by 2016 some 34,000 new homes will be required which will generate additional traffic.

• The road network to the east of Central Milton Keynes to the M1 Junction 14 is getting congested, especially at peak times.

• The existing Coachway and Park and Ride requires expansion and improvement to encourage greater use of public transport and to provide an eastern gateway for Milton Keynes.

• Milton Keynes Council has obtained funding from Central Government and developers to improve the highways and the Park and Ride site.

Improvements Include

1. M1 Junction 14 and A509 to Northfield Roundabout
• Improvements to Junction 14 to relieve current traffic congestion.

• An additional lane for the A509 between Junction 14 and Northfield roundabout.

• Increasing the size of Northfield roundabout by adding additional lanes and widening the junction approaches.

2. Pineham and Fox Milne roundabouts
• Increasing the capacity of these roundabouts with more lanes and widening the junction approaches.

• Improving the reliability of bus services by providing bus priority measures.

3. Park and Ride and new Coachway building
• The construction of a new Coachway building to give better facilities for the public and the operators of coaches and buses.

• Improving facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

• Improving the Park and Ride site by creating approximately 360 car parking spaces.
