Births, Marriages and Deaths

Coronavirus update - 8 July 2020

Civic is open for pre-booked appointments only, see below for more information regarding appointments currently available:

Birth registrations - Appointments are available to book online or by calling 01908 372101.  We are looking forward to seeing you, but we have a large backlog of births to register, so please bear with us as we deal with the earliest births first.

New parents can register their baby with a GP practice without a birth certificate.

Claims for Child Benefit and Universal Credit can be made before you register the birth.  Visit the Child Benefit and Universal Credit pages for details on how to make a claim.

Death registrations - All death registrations are now carried out via a telephone appointment.  You still need to book an appointment, but you do not need to attend the register office in person.  For more information and to book, see our death registration page for guidance.

Marriage and civil partnership ceremonies - we are not currently taking any new bookings for ceremonies.

All Civic ceremony bookings are currently suspended as we need to use our accommodation to deal with the backlog of birth registrations.  We have written to all couples impacted and will update them as soon as we can restart ceremonies. Please see our announcement dated 22 June for further information regarding ceremonies and options available. (PDF, 111KB)

Existing venue ceremonies can go ahead from 4 July provided the latest government advice is followed.  Not all venues will be able to accommodate up to 30 people safely and maintain social distancing.  There are also measures around celebrations after your ceremony.  Speak to your venue about what this means for your ceremony.

Notices - If you have a marriage or civil partnership booked to take place within the next three months and you are a Milton Keynes resident, you can book your notice appointment by calling 01908 372101.

Citizenship ceremonies - a small number of emergency individual citizenship ceremony appointments will be available from mid-July once our accommodation is Covid-19 secure.  Please see our citizenship page for details of how to contact the Home Office in the first instance.  Once we have dates, we will contact those who require an early appointment.

As we are provided with further information as to when we might be able to deliver any services safely this statement will be updated.
