Artificial Intelligence in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes is a highly successful place to do business and has been at the forefront of growth in Artificial Intelligence in recent years.

Our city is home to the world’s largest fleet of autonomous delivery robots, and in 2019, we hosted the first European Robotics League Smart City Robotic Challenge in Centre:MK.

Our technology and AI related meet ups including MKAI, Made in MK and MK Geek Night show the strength of the innovation community in our city.

The Oxford-Cambridge Arc economic prospectus also recently identified MK as having “clear scope to be a global destination for future waves of innovation-led growth in the application of AI.”

The MKAI report (PDF, 1.6MB) identifies MK as a UK leader in AI and outlines the city’s investment in educating the next generation of talent through MK College’s Institute of Technology and the plans for MK:U.

The Council is taking immediate steps to strengthen the AI sector as part of its £2.25 million COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan, funding a six-month AI Development Programme, connecting business leaders, academics, and individuals in MK to develop AI skills and strengthen networks.
