Transferring from an independent fostering agency (IFA)

Are you experiencing long periods when you do not have a child in placement?  If you are already a foster carer and thinking about changing agencies, we will try and make the transition as smooth as possible for you and fast track your application.

Benefits of fostering for Milton Keynes

As a local authority we have the children who need fostering placements and would prefer to place our children with our own carers. This means that you are likely to have a wider choice of placements.  We offer all our placements to Milton Keynes foster carers before approaching independent fostering agencies.  We are not a profit making organisation.

As Milton Keynes carer you would only have Milton Keynes’ children placed with you so would only need to work with one local authority.

In Milton Keynes we believe in supporting our carer’s professional development. Carers receive excellent support and have named supervising social workers; have access to an extensive and exciting training programme and support groups. Training opportunities can be found on the Milton Keynes Professional Development site. We regularly hold fun events for the whole family.

We pay competitive rates for fostering as well as paying holiday and birthday allowances and providing all carers with free membership to The Fostering Network.

The transfer process

We have a comprehensive system in place to make your transfer as smooth as possible. We aim to complete your assessment within three months.

We follow The Fostering Network's transfer of foster carer’s protocol.
