Summer of Play 2021 (including Holiday Activities and Food #HAF)
What is Summer of Play?
A massive range of FREE activities are taking place throughout August for local children and young people (aged 0-18)! From football to film making, horse riding, African Drums and laser tag, we hope there is something for everyone.
Across Milton Keynes, we have more than 27,000 individual play sessions planned for August. To book your activities, simply browse our programme and contact your chosen providers direct.
Where can I find the activity programme?
You can CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE ACTIVITY PROGRAMME or download it via the link on the left of this page.
Activities and booking - FAQs
How much do these activities cost?
All events are FREE. Milton Keynes Council has secured and funded over 27,000 free spaces across Milton Keynes.
How do I book on to the sessions?
Please contact providers directly to book your activities. We have provided phone numbers and email addresses in most cases. Book early to avoid disappointment as spaces are limited.
Is food provided?
The majority of activities will include healthy meals, unless stated on the activity programme. When booking events with providers they will cater for all dietary requirements.
My child has additional needs, will these events be suitable?
Please speak to individual providers about your child. Many will be able to cater their events for those with special educational needs and disability.
Is there a limit to the number of activities you can book?
No, there is no restriction. We hope there is something for everyone in our programme and you may want to take part in multiple activities.
However, we do ask you to only book those events you are sure to attend as 'covering slots just in case' prevents other families from accessing the opportunity.
Am I allowed to book multiple slots with the same provider?
We understand that you may want to book multiple sessions with one provider. Please bear in mind that we want to enable as many families as possible to access the provision and would recommend booking a range of different activities. Booking multiple days or activities at one location will be at the discretion of individual providers and is dependent on demand.
The activity I want for my child is fully booked. Should I call them anyway?
Where possible, our programme is updated to reflect those providers that are fully booked. In some situations, there may be a waiting list and if so, this will be indicated in the programme.
We are also exploring options to expand the number of spaces on our most popular sessions - it's worth checking by this webpage for the most up-to-date programme.
How is Summer of Play funded?
The council has been awarded grant funding, by the Department for Education (DfE), to coordinate free activities and food, for children in receipt of benefit-related Free School Meals (FSM), during the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays in 2021.
In addition to this, we understand that it has been a difficult time for all families, so locally we have increased the funding available to ensure that all children and young people can access these events during Summer 2021.
We want to offer a diverse range of events this summer to meet the local interests and needs of children, young people and their families. We hope this programme of activities will help children and young people to:
- eat more healthily over the school holidays;
- be more active during the school holidays;
- take part in engaging and enriching activities;
- be safe and not to be socially isolated;
- have greater knowledge of health and nutrition; and
- be more engaged with school and other local services
Please email us at HAF@milton-keynes.gov.uk if you have any questions.
