Information for parents and carers of two year old children

If you are the parent of a two year old and are in receipt of certain benefits you could qualify for up to 15 hours of free childcare each week. This could either be at a local nursery, pre-school or a childminder in your area.
Quality childcare education can help your two year old to learn, play together with friends, experience new activities or get ready for school. It can also give you more time to go back to work or learn and develop a new skill through training.

Watch our short film about how Time for Twos funding has helped two local families here.

In Milton Keynes, a two year old will be eligible if they meet any one of the following criteria:

  • They meet the eligibility criteria also used for Free School Meals (FSM).
  • Their families receive Working Tax Credits and have annual gross earnings of no more than £16,190 per year
  • They have a current Statement of Special Educational Need (SEN) or an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan
  • They attract Disability Living Allowance
  • They are looked after by the local authority
  • They have left care through special guardianship or an adoption or residence order.
  • They are a child living in England where the family has no recourse to public funds.

If you think your child qualifies, you can use our on-line eligibility checker here.
