Consultation for balloon and sky lantern releases on MK Council land
MK Council would like to hear your views and opinions on whether we should adopt a policy for the release of balloons and sky lanterns from Council owned land. This policy would ban the release of balloons and sky lanterns on the grounds of safety and to protect the environment and wildlife. A similar ban is already in place by other major landowners in MK.
Most balloon and sky lantern releases are in support of a charitable cause or for cultural events and we want to take these views into account as well as the environmental impact. Alternative methods could be encouraged that have little or no impact to the environment.
The feedback will help us to decide if a policy is supported locally and if we can find a suitable balance between protecting the environment, reducing any risk of fire and allowing people to continue their cultural celebrations.
To gather information, feedback and suggestions on whether MK Council should have a policy for releasing balloons and sky lanterns from MK Council owned land.
