Proposal to replace Sir Frank Markham Community School with a brand new Academy

The Council wishes to see a brand new Academy built to replace Sir Frank Markham Community School. Academies are a key part of government policy and investment to improve facilities for our children.

The government wishes to commit to the funding of the new Academy after 1 April 2007 - the provision of a new building will cost around £25 million. Before it will commit to this spending, the Council and local community has to decide whether it is prepared to close the existing school on 31 August 2009 in order to pave the way for the opening of the Academy on 1 September 2009.
