Summary

Government guidance and legislation emphasises the importance of smooth transition to school for all children in the early years. Documents such as: Together from the Start, the SEN Code of Practice, Inclusive Schooling and the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, all stress the importance of forward planning and sharing information. This policy is specifically concerned with facilitating quality transitions for children with special educational needs in the early years.

Purpose

We seek views from all interested parties on the proposed consistent approach to supporting the smooth transfer and transition of children with special educational needs in the early years into school. We would like to know if the policy is considered to be effective, equitable and practical.
