Spanish - Intermediate (online)

Is this the right course for me?

You should have studied Spanish for 280 hours in the recent past but you may have maintained your level of Spanish by spending time in the country and/or with Spanish friends. You may have started your journey on the Languages Ladder.

What will I learn?

The main focus will be on accuracy in listening, speaking and reading in order to support your accuracy in writing. You will be using all 4 skills at languages ladder level 6 – 7: (This is a similar level to CEFR A2).

The course book is Aula 2 that includes various activities and a CD to revise the audio material at your leisure. You could use any dictionary or grammar book separately to support your weekly homework and private study.

Topics of study for this course are:

  • Learning expressions: likes, preferences, match similarities
  • Describing objects, house, material
  • Learning expressions for different social activities using greeting verbs
  • Asking for favours, giving permissions
  • Giving excuses and justifications

Grammar points:

  • Possessive pronouns, using comparatives and prepositions
  • Uses of verb to be, to like, to prefer
  • Adjectives: descriptions
  • Conjugating the gerund
  • Conditional verbs

How will I learn?

The tutor will organise activities to practise listening, speaking, writing and reading in Spanish. You will sometimes work in pairs or in small groups with your fellow students or listen to sound files that will be included in the weekly PowerPoint. They may come from the course book resources or be spoken by the tutor.

The emphasis will be on grammatical accuracy in order to improve your confidence in speaking, listening and writing in Spanish.

Will I gain a qualification?

You will have the opportunity to climb the Languages Ladder by receiving a Grade Certificate in one or more skills (speaking, listening, reading or writing.) The scheme is optional but many learners decide to take this route. Your tutor will give you more information.

What can I do next?

You will be able to continue your studies next term at a higher level.

What do I need?

You just need a computer (desktop or laptop) or a mobile device (e.g. a tablet or a mobile phone) as well as Internet access.
