Introduction to Childcare (Level 1 Employability Award) - FULL
Is this the right course for me?
The course suits those wishing to gain experience in childcare, with a view to employability.
You will need to commit to regular and punctual attendance every week.
The weekly commitment is 2 hours in class attendance and 3 ½ hours home learning. With tutorials, this makes a total of 57 hours guided learning, as set out by City & Guilds.
Learners need to be able to read, write and understand English, and be computer literate.
What will I learn?
The course covers 2 units:
Unit 454 Understanding child development
The aim of this unit is to give learners an introduction to child development from the ages 0 – 5 years. It enables the learner to understand the key stages of development.
Unit 457 Understanding the physical and psychological needs of children
This unit is about recognising the physical and psychological needs of children and how such needs can be met by a variety of agencies and strategies.

Will I gain a qualification?
You will gain a City & Guilds accredited Level 1 Award.
What can I do next?
There may be opportunities to study an additional unit, resulting in an extended award. This is subject to funding and learner retention.
There may also be opportunities to study the Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner.
What do I need to bring to the class?
You will need a notebook, a pen, an A4 ring binder folder and subject dividers.
