Spanish - First Steps - Part Two

Is this the right course for me?

Yes - if you have NEVER studied Spanish before and would now like to take the first steps. This course provides an introduction to learning the language and will suit you if you want to have lots of opportunities to practise speaking and understanding Spanish. The course is linked to the Breakthrough (first) stage of the Languages Ladder.

What will I learn?

You will learn to understand, speak and read enough basic Spanish to experience the fun and challenge of learning a new language. The vocabulary covered will be based on some of the everyday situations you might encounter on a first visit to a Spanish speaking country e.g. meeting people and introducing yourself or ordering drinks in a café.

By the end of the course you will be able:

  • To repeat/say/understand basic phrases e.g. greetings
  • To give and understand simple information concerning numbers and prices
  • To understand short verbal instructions
  • To recognize and read out basic words and phrases

How will I learn?

You will learn in a group of no more than 16 people.

The emphasis will be on speaking and understanding the language so expect the main language of the class to be Spanish. You will be taking part in simple everyday conversations, role play and games and will be given access to handouts.

Will I gain a qualification?

You will be taking your first steps on the Languages Ladder and may gain a certificate in one or more skills (optional). Ask your tutor for more details about the scheme.

What can I do next?

You will be ready to move on to Spanish - Next Steps which will consolidate and extend the language you have acquired. You will be climbing the Languages Ladder and working towards completing the Breakthrough stage.

What do I need to bring to the classes?

A pen and notepad would be useful.
