Salix energy efficiency loan scheme

Milton Keynes Council can help apply for interest free loans for most public buildings

The Government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy provides interest free loans to the public sector to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Salix loans provide capital investment for energy efficient technologies, providing that the energy saving projects have a payback of less than 5 years. The loan is repaid to Salix from the financial savings from the project.

Up to 100% of 'the energy saving project' costs can be financed by the Salix scheme. Repayments to Salix are by direct debit every six months. Projects need to satisfy carbon emission reduction conditions and be completed within 9 months from the commitment date.

Most publicly funded buildings are eligible for Salix loans and Milton Keynes Council can help with the application process. A small percentage charge is required to help cover the costs of staff time. Loans are not guaranteed as they need to be approved by Salix but the Sustainability Team can help ensure the application is eligible and compliant with the loan terms and conditions.
