V4 Pedestrian Crossings
The Western Expansion Area (WEA) is situated between Crownhill and Stony Stratford.
Once completed it will include 6,550 new homes, employment land, green open spaces and parks, a main street with retail and leisure units and schools.
Occupation of homes in the Western Expansion Area (Whitehouse and Fairfields) began late in 2015 and is now increasing rapidly. However there were no safe pedestrian crossing facilities across the grid roads. A toucan crossing is now in operation between Fairfields and Fullers Slade. The pedestrian crossing schemes are part of the urgent work to provide safe pedestrian and cyclists crossings in the Western Expansion Area.

The General Arrangement (PDF, 395KB) plan shows the location of the underpass.
Here is a leaflet (PDF, 1.7MB) explaining in more detail.
Construction works began with the closure of the V4 on the 10 June 2019. A signed diversion is in place for the road and Redway.
Follow the links below for the latest and previous updates. These include photos showing the site during the start of works and what the road looked like before work started.
Progress Update Summary
There has been a substantial amount of excavation for the utility providers and new ducts have been laid. Gas, electric and Western Power Distribution will be working on site for the next 4 weeks.
We have encountered 38 different services during the excavation for the new gas main, far more than would usually be expected. Each utility must be carefully exposed by hand excavation.
Western Power Distribution has completed half of their diversion and a new joint safely installed.
A major construction project, such as this, involves lots of different groups working together. There have already been over 60 different people working on the site to complete works.
Works happening over the next couple of weeks
There will be more utility excavations and installation for suppliers. There will also be new connections and disconnections of utilities. There are 6 utility supplies which need a diversion before the excavation and installation of the underpass. These are; Gas, Electric, Western Power Distribution, Virgin Media, City Fibre, Street Lighting. The diversion of these utilities will not affect the supply to any properties in Milton Keynes. We will also be removing signage.
See our Frequently Asked Questions page for further information.
A series of four roadshows were held in the local area between 27 June and 6 July. We engaged with 470 people who asked a wide variety of questions. We are adding responses to many of these to our Frequently Asked Questions page.
