Hyperfast Broadband Rollout
MK Council has entered into a partnership with Hyperoptic, the fastest residential broadband provider in the UK, and CityFibre to deliver the scheme.
Roll-out of the hyperfast connectivity is to begin imminently, with Council tenants set to benefit from broadband speeds of 1,000Mbps – more than 18x faster than the national average.
With better access to the internet, MK Council tenants will be better equipped when using the web to apply for jobs, education and accessing online training.
Hyperoptic is working with 50 councils across the country with residents in Ninth, Tenth and Silbury Boulevard benefitting from the full fibre network immediately.
CityFibre is the UK’s largest alternative provider of wholesale fibre network infrastructure and the builder of Gigabit Cities. CityFibre has begun its full fibre roll-out to approximately 5 million homes and businesses across the UK in partnership with Vodafone.
Milton Keynes’ Gigabit City journey began in 2016 when CityFibre opened up a full fibre network for local businesses to access next-generation internet connectivity. MK was then announced as the first UK city to benefit from a city-wide full fibre roll-out in partnership with Vodafone. This means the network will be expanded to reach nearly every home and business in the city.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, Councillor Nigel Long said: “This new partnership will open doors for our residents to thrive. It will improve access to training and give people the means to apply for jobs and so much more. I’d like to thank council colleagues and partners for their work in delivering this.”
