Check your smoke alarm regularly - your life may depend on it.
'Push the Button, not your Luck'
In private dwellings, Milton Keynes Council has replaced battery-operated smoke alarms with alarms powered by 10 year lithium batteries.
In sheltered accommoddation we have fitted mains-powered alarms.
For tenants who are hard of hearing smoke alarms with flashing lights are available.
If your property does not have a smoke alarm please contact the Repairs Service Centre to arrange for one to be fitted.
It is your responsibility to make sure that the alarms are:
- Tested every week by pressing the test button until the alarm sounds
- Kept free from dust and cobwebs. You can use a vacuum cleaner to do this.
If you are a council tenant and your smoke alarm stops working, becomes unreliable or gets broken, please contact YourMK - 24 hour, 7 days a week 0330 123 2522 Please do not attempt to change the battery yourself; we will come and replace it.
