Collections are the life-blood of any museum or archive and Milton Keynes Council and all its major museum and archive partners within the Heritage Consortium operate a collections strategy. In 2011, thanks to funding from the Council and Heritage Lottery Fund, a new joint programme was developed to provide specialised training and collections care. Termed STACCess:MK and operating out of a Council building, over the next three years this project will catalogue and digitise the most important collections of eight partners, making a wealth of historic items and materia accessible to the public.
The Council and its Consortium partners will also work to develop a joint collections strategy for Milton Keynes. Members of the public wishing to donate material should contact the relevant museum or archive on the Muesums & Organsiations page who will then be able to advise on which partner that donation is best given.
Milton Keynes is also fortunate to have a world class collection of public art across the city centre and the borough. Numbering 250+ items including permanent and temporary sculpture, integrated artworks and sound and vision pieces, Milton Keynes continue to add to its art through innovative projects, including those in the growth areas of Milton Keynes.
