How does the change to OverDrive affect me as an RBdigital customer?

HOW WILL I ACCESS MY DIGITAL BOOKS?

Once the transfer has taken place, you will need to use Libby, the one-tap app to read and listen to your digital books. The RBdigital app will stop working by the end of April 2021. Download Libby from the Apple or Android app store.

CURRENTLY READING OR LISTENING TO A BOOK?

If you are reading books with RBdigital during the period of transfer to OverDrive, you can finish reading them with RBdigital until they are returned. You will not be able to renew them.

HOLDS AND WISHLISTS

Holds and wish lists held in RBdigital will NOT be transferred to OverDrive. If you have placed a hold on a book in RBdigital it won't be held for you in the Libby app. You'll need to find the item in the Libby app or Overdrive website and place your hold again there.

If you'd like to make a note of your current holds we suggest you take a screenshot of your titles. If you log in to the RBdigital website you can download your transaction history (checkouts, holds and wishlists) by going to MY ACCOUNT > PROFILE.

MAGAZINES

Magazines that have been downloaded in RBdigital will not be transferred. You will have access to unlimited magazines through OverDrive and the Libby app.

There are no download limits for the magazines and they will be loaned for a maximum of 3 weeks and you can renew or re-borrow them at any time. There is no auto-checkout or notification if a new edition is available.

On an eReader using the OverDrive App

Note: OverDrive and Libby do not work with Kindle eReaders in the UK.

You will need an account for your Kobo, Nook or similar device, depending on which eReader you have, and you will be using the OverDrive app rather than Libby. Some eReaders have OverDrive available on the device. If so, simply open OverDrive and enter your card details.

If your eReader doesn’t have OverDrive:

  1. Connect your eReader to your computer and install the Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) program on your computer.
  2. Your eReader will show as a device in ADE.
  3. Go to the OverDrive website and download your chosen eBook to your PC (the filename ends with .acsm)
  4. Downloaded eBooks open in ADE. If not, you can find the .acsm file on your computer (usually in your Downloads folder) and open it with ADE.
  5. To transfer an eBook to your eReader, open the LIBRARY view in ADE and from there, drag and drop the eBook onto your eReader. (You may need to accept a file-transfer prompt on your eReader in order for it to appear in ADE)
  6. Once you've transferred the library eBook, you can read it on your device just like any other eBook.

Step by step instructions and searchable help is available on the OverDrive app help pages.

On a laptop or desktop PC

  1. Go to the OverDrive website and SIGN IN with your library card number.
  2. You will then see the Milton Keynes Libraries OverDrive service ready for you to use.
