How does Click and Collect work?

We are happy to offer this free service to ensure books remain available for library members. The Click and Collect service allows customers to borrow resources through a safe and controlled collection system.

  • You can reserve items as normal using the online catalogue or request a 'Pick and Mix' selection.
  • You will receive an email or letter when your items are ready for collection.

Will Click and Collect cost me anything?

  • The usual reservation fees have been waived during this period and will not be charged.
  • It is also free to borrow audiobooks.

Is it safe?

We have strict measures in place to protect you and the community.

  • All books have been cleaned prior to selection and handled using PPE while we assemble your order.
  • Any returned books are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours.
  • Items you return may not disappear from your account immediately but you will still be able to borrow new items through the Click and Collect service.

Although we have cleaned our stock as thoroughly as possible, we cannot guarantee it is risk free. We recommend that you clean and treat with care any items coming into your home, including library books, to minimise any risk to your household.

Milton Keynes Libraries have made every effort to ensure your safety. However, this service is used entirely at your own risk as we cannot guarantee items being 100% COVID-19 free.

Why has Central Library stopped offering Click and Collect?

The Central Library building is being used as a key worker Covid-19 Test Centre. This means that the building can no longer be used as a Click and Collect collection or return point although we can still access the stock held there.

Due to the delay collecting and delivering Central Library stock to your nominated libraries for Click and Collect requests, it may take a little longer before orders are complete and you're contacted to say your books are ready for collection. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

How will I know when my books are ready for collection?

It is very important that you check your online account details to ensure that your email address and/or postal address are current and correct. If they are not, we will have no way to contact you. You can update your personal details by logging in to your library account.
  • We will contact you by email or letter when your books are ready for collection.
  • The books will have been issued to your library card at this point.
  • You have 2 weeks to collect your books before the order is cancelled and the books returned to stock.

We will endeavour to gather as many items as possible from your order before contacting you. There may be some books that are unavailable because there are long waiting lists. Rather than delay your order, we will include the majority of your books and arrange collection.

How do I return my books?

Any books from any of the Milton Keynes libraries - whether borrowed through Click and Collect or not - can be returned to the drop boxes at any of the libraries during the opening hours. Please note that Central Library has been CLOSED since 16 January 2021 and no longer has a drop box for returns.

You can return books outside of these hours using the letterboxes at Bletchley, Woburn Sands, Newport Pagnell and Stony Stratford Libraries. Please don't try to use letterboxes at other libraries.

There may be a delay before books show as returned on your account.

Books can be returned whenever you have finished with them and you do not need to wait until you have finished them all, or for the due dates.
