Summer Reading Challenge
Can you read books, collect the stickers and crack the case for the Animal Agents?
Animal Agents is this year’s Summer Reading Challenge produced by The Reading Agency and delivered by libraries all over the UK. Milton Keynes Libraries are inviting children of all ages to take part once again this year.
Children’s reading can “dip” during the summer holidays. The Reading Agency’s Annual Summer Reading Challenge helps by getting nearly one million children into libraries (around 3,000 in Milton Keynes last year) to maintain reading skills and confidence.
Because everything changes when we read.
We want as many children as possible to read or have help reading six library books over the summer holidays. Along the way there are stickers (watch out some of them are stinky!) and a bookmark to collect plus a certificate and medal for completing the challenge (while stocks last).
Last year we had nearly 3000 children participating in the Reading Challenge and would love to see even more children taking part this year and we’d especially like to see more completing the challenge – particularly with the Animal Agents case to crack and reading a sixth book means finding out who did it!
Animal Agents is FREE to join and simple to sign up for just come into any Milton Keynes Library* during staffed hours. The Challenge begins Friday 21 July and ends Saturday 9 September.
With thousands of great books waiting to be read at the local library there is no excuse for boredom during the long summer break.
*Bletchley Library is closed for refurbishment at the moment but please come along to the Mobile Library on Wednesdays 10am-4.30pm at Stanier Square or any other Milton Keynes Library to take part.

Summer Reading Challenge Champions
Help us with 'Animal Agents', Summer Reading Challenge 2017 at Milton Keynes Libraries.
Are you up for a challenge?
We are looking for volunteers aged 13-25 to become Summer Reading Challenge Champions. If you love books and reading, want experience working with children and enjoy talking with people then why not sign up?
During the summer holidays Milton Keynes Libraries get extremely busy with around 3000 children taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge and we want you to act as reading role models for them.
You will sign the children up to the challenge, track their progress and hand out incentives, help them find their next book and most importantly speak with them about what they have been reading.
We would like you to commit to around 2 hours a week, although ideally times and even locations would be flexible.
The hours that you volunteer with us can go towards achieving Duke of Edinburgh Medals or Vinspired accreditation.
There will be a group induction evening before the summer holidays to tell you more about the role, what we expect from you and what you should expect from us.
If you want to get involved please complete the online application form. If you prefer, you can print an application form (PDF, 354KB) and return it to Central Library or ask library staff for a form.
For further information you can ask at any library or email the volunteer coordinator.
