MK Libraries April May 2018
spacer image

The last couple of months have been busy with Bletchley Library settling into the new building. Customers are clearly glad to have their library back and are finding many clubs and activities popping up – including IT Buddy drop-in sessions to help with technology, Children’s Hours, business advice, family history help and "Knitting and Nattering" – and we’ve been looking for volunteers to start a Friends of Bletchley Library group.

The Friends Group for Olney Library (FoLiO) has been very busy hosting a Craft Fayre and Strawberry Teas to celebrate the Royal Wedding, running storytimes, crafts and drop-in sessions for children, presenting talks by authors Jean Fullerton and Tim Skelton and starting up monthly adult craft evenings. Talking of crafts, Newport Pagnell Library has started a weekly craft club for adults and Central Library hosted a pop up Arts and Craft Fair. We’re thrilled that Art, Crafts and Libraries go so well together!

We’ve hosted exhibitions by Discover MK celebrating local Ultimate 80s Bands, photography from around the world by David Tunnicliffe, Chinese calligraphy by Ka-yee Chan, the Fawcett Society’s championing of the pioneering ‘Women Who Made MK’ and a legacy of MK50 with a Digitalis Project display and Storylines books for sale.

We’ve had half term storytimes; published a new mobile library timetable (April – September 2018) which includes 6 new stops and extends into the Western Expansion Area; worked hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition for the new GDPR regulations; joined the fun for #LoveMK day and watched the new Westcroft Library start to take shape and rise from the rubble at the Westcroft District Centre. As if that wasn’t enough – some (mad) library colleagues decided to brave the heat and join the MK Rocket Run at the beginning of May!

This is just a taster of what’s been happening over the last few weeks at Milton Keynes Libraries; to find out more, subscribe to the library newsletter.
