The past two months have been very successful for the rise in business in Milton Keynes. With an array of events held by the FSB, Velocity, EMW Law and City Fibre it’s been a very productive couple of months.

We have recently met with representatives from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund to see what the offer was for entrepreneurs, start ups and SME’s in terms of funding to help realise business potential. A collaboration between the Government owned British Business Bank and ten Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP’s) from this area and the West Midlands, it provides finance from proof of concept loans to Equity finance. They have been to a number of events across MK trying to inform people that funding is available so if you’re interested then please visit the website here or get in contact with InvestMK.

Great to meet up with staff at the Electric Vehicle Experience Centre. With focus on lowering the carbon footprint Milton Keynes was named as one of four cities in the UK to become ‘Go Ultra Low’ by the Government bringing with it a £9 million investment into the area. The aim is to provide free education and advice about electric and plug in cars and test driving the large fleet of cars available from Renault, VW and Kia to name a few. After making a visit to the centre, it was surprising how accessible charge points were, and how cheap and efficient the cars are to run. One of the initiatives the Government has in place is the Work Place initiative. This involves having an electric charge point installed for free at your business address amongst other great benefits. Active working towards lowering the carbon footprint is positive steps forwards towards a sustainable planet.

Figures were published by the Semlep Growth Hub this week detailing how SME’s were benefiting from the support Velocity provide at the start of summer. Over a two month period 40 businesses in the Milton Keynes area received support with 19 receiving grants to increase business potential. There is a great deal of investment within our area and it’s refreshing to see new businesses and emerging ones break through to new levels of trading and accomplishment.
