January saw the publication by independent think tank, Centre for Cities, of their Cities Outlook 2019.  Once again Milton Keynes was ranked highly on a number of indicators, please see below some our great accolades:-

  • GVA per Worker (£72,980), the highest outside Greater London area
  • Business Stock per 10k population (475.9), only London and Reading had a higher rate
  • On of the Top 10 cities for Average Weekly Workplace Earnings (£611.2)

The latest Centre for Cities statistics for Milton Keynes can be found here.

Centre for Cities

Milton Keynes featured in the February 2019 edition of the Irwin Mitchell UK Powerhouse. Irwin Mitchell predicts that Milton Keynes will top GVA growth in quarter 3 2019. The full report can be found here.

We are in the process of refreshing our Local Economic Assessment (LEA).  The LEA is a strategic document that provides a comprehensive and robust analysis of the local economic conditions affecting the local area. The LEA will develop strong evidence bases for public policy, future strategies and funding opportunities.

We have now appointed Hatch Regeneris to help us pull together the data that we need to monitor and market our great City. We expect the LEA project to conclude in May 2019.

Please watch this space for future updates.

Each month, we publish our Unemployment Report. December and January has continued to see a back to back reduction in the number of individuals claiming Jobseeker's Allowance. The JSA claimant count for January 2019 stood at 1,977 individuals (1.2%), which is 139 fewer individuals than in November, 2,116 individuals (1.2%). More information is available here in our monthly employment report.

Things to come:

  • We are working very closely with the 'Skills and Economic Growth Board' over the next few months to look at the future actions for the Milton Keynes Council Skills Strategy
  • We are drafting a potential project with Milton Keynes College to support local businesses (in particular SMEs) with their current and future Skills challenges
