Milton Keynes Council will be targeting up to 100 road signs in a spring clean operation from February.
The worst signs will be identified and cleaned over a period of several weeks across the grid road network.
Unusually wet and mild weather conditions in late 2015 caused more road dirt and grime to build up on signs close to the roads.
Signs that are unreadable are a road safety risk therefore the Council is taking immediate action to rectify this.
The clean-up will cost around £8k and will be carried out by the Council’s service provider Serco. The funding has been secured from the Highways Adoptions income.
