Message from Mac Heath

Dear Colleagues,

On Saturday 31 October, the Prime Minister announced new national restrictions that will be in force from Thursday 5 November.  Early years settings, schools and colleges will remain open because senior clinicians still advise that school is the best place for children to be.

I know that you, like me, understand the need to prioritise the education and welfare of children and young people.  This is crucial to support their wellbeing and their long-term futures.

However, I acknowledge that you (as keyworkers) are being asked to continue attending your place of work when the same is not true of many other professionals across the country.  I would like to extend a heartfelt thankyou to you and your colleagues, for all that you have done and continue to do.

In September, you successfully planned and implemented a safe return to schools and educational settings in Milton Keynes.  I know how much time, effort and energy went into your risk assessments.  I also know that the protective measures you have put into place are continuing to reduce transmission of the virus within schools.

Over the next few weeks, we will all need to work increasingly flexibly to achieve our goals.  This might mean thinking even more carefully about the way in which we work together.  To support you at this difficult time, we will work with you to consider any planned work on a case by case basis. Our discussions will cover:

A) aspects of planned work that could be re-scheduled;

B) aspects of planned work that should go ahead but that will need to be conducted using remote/online platforms

C) aspects of planned work that still need to go ahead face to face (for example, health professionals working with specific pupils in school or setting)

We will continue to use the weekly EYE newsletter to provide you with the most important information at the right time.  In addition, for the latest information on COVID-19 in Milton Keynes, please watch the regular video updates from Council Leader Pete Marland.

I appreciate that the next few weeks won’t be easy and that there will be new challenges ahead for pupils, parents and staff.  I also know that you have the skills, determination and willingness to succeed.

Thank you once again for your unshakable commitment to the children and young people of Milton Keynes.

EY update meetings

Thank you to all the schools, settings and childminders who attended our first Early Years Update meetings. We received positive feedback about them so we will plan to hold more in spring 2021.

Flu jab guidance - message from our local Health Protection Team

The local Health Protection Team have produced two leaflets relating to the flu vaccine: flu vaccine myths for CHILDREN (PDF, 35KB) factsheet and flu myth vaccine factsheet (PDF, 103KB).

Online COVID - 19 flowchart and online form

Please could you continue to use the online form to notify MKC education and public health colleagues of confirmed cases of COVID - 19 in staff or pupils.

After half term, you should use the online form to retrospectively notify us of any confirmed cases.  This will enable us to support you in making sure that the right staff and children are in school or setting and that any who need to self-isolate are at home.

The FAQs that link to the flowchart for schools and settings have been updated.  We hope that you continue to find these useful.  Please note: the flowchart has not changed, just the FAQs.

DfE COVID - 19 guidance

The DfE has grouped their Covid - 19 guidance into ‘collection pages’ to make information easier for different users to access.

These can be accessed using the links below:
