Announcements

Updated guidance on national restrictions for education and childcare settings

The DfE has updated their guidance on what the national restrictions mean for education and childcare settings.

The update includes more information about:

•          the provision of extra-curricular activities, sport and physical education

•          the provision of children’s services and social care to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, including information on access to respite and leaving care

The national restrictions are in force up to and including Wednesday 2 December.

Updated guidance for parents and carers

The DfE have also updated their guidance for parents and carers on what they need to know about early years providers, schools and colleges during the coronavirus (COVID -19) outbreak.

The update provides information about:

•          the national restrictions that came into force on 5 November

•          the latest advice for clinically extremely vulnerable children and young people

•          advice on the use of face coverings in education settings

Please share this guidance with parents and carers.

DfE COVID - 19 guidance

The DfE has grouped their Covid - 19 guidance into ‘collection pages’ to make information easier for different users to access.

These can be accessed using the links below:

Early Adopters (schools) of the reformed EYFS

Schools-focused webinar

The DfE have produced a webinar for early adopter schools. It is not clear whether all MK Early Adopters have received the webinar link from the DfE so we thought it helpful to provide it below.

The webinar  can be accessed at: https://foundationyears.org.uk/2020/10/eyfs-reforms-support-for-early-adopters/

You will need to use this password to access it - EYFSwebinar1!

Impact of Brexit – Transition Period (schools)

If you haven’t seen it, please do take some time to engage with guidance for schools during the transition period and after 1 January 2021.

The information in the guidance in intended to help you prepare for the end of the transition period on 31 December 2020.  Contents includes:

•          Recruiting and managing teachers and school staff

•          School places

•          Running your school

•          School trips and exchanges

•          EU Settlement Scheme

In addition, you may want to look at preparing for food supply chain changes from 1 January 2021.  This has recently been added to previous guidance about the school food standards.

Ofsted

Ofsted interim briefing report

On 17 March 2020, all routine inspections were suspended due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

As part of phased return to routine inspection, Ofsted is carrying out interim visits to early years providers. A briefing report is available on interim visits to settings.

MKC Services

Inclusion and intervention team – training

Please see the MKC Local Offer training webpage for information about the Inclusion and Intervention Team’s Centralised Training Directory (September 2020-July 2021).

In the directory, you’ll find information about the learning opportunities for staff from September 2020-July 2021.  Due to the current pandemic, the document will be updated online through the academic year with more sessions being added in due course for the spring and summer.

Please email: inclusionandinterventiontraining@milton-keynes.gov.uk to apply for training and help with any queries.

Email invites will be sent to participants with a Microsoft Teams link, at least the day before each session.

Christmas events

Although we'd all like to celebrate Christmas as normally as possible, some school and setting traditions will not be possible this year.

For example, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and Committees may need your support to understand the implications of the pandemic on their usual Christmas fund raising and/or celebration practices.

Even if the lockdown is relaxed on 2 December, there will still be significant restrictions around having people in school and settings.  We know that you will want to avoid the risk of any infection outbreak just before the holidays and setting the expectations of the wider community is important.
