Dear Colleagues,

I hope you find the information in this edition of EYE useful. As always, please contact me if you need advice or guidance regarding EYFS.

Reminder

We’ve updated the flowchart for schools and settings that outlines the local process that must be followed for confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Please save the latest version now, for future reference, and share it with staff.

Remember, you only need to use the online form to report confirmed cases in staff or pupils who are attending school. You don’t need to report confirmed cases in staff or pupils who aren’t accessing school - because they will engage with NHS Track and Trace.

If you have a confirmed case of Covid – 19 and you need guidance, please contact me as the Key Education Contact for settings on 01908 254929 or 075 865 542 79.

If you are unable to contact me, please ring Jenny Bargrove on 01908 254071/254509 or 075 573 135 37

Best wishes

Belinda Woodcock

Announcements

February half term

Settings and schools will continue to play an important role in contact tracing for the children and staff who’ve been attending.

As over Christmas:

•          Staff or children who test positive, having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in setting/school, should notify the setting/school. The setting/school should assist in identifying close contacts and advise members of the affected bubble(s) to self-isolate. This is important because the individual may have been infectious whilst they were in setting/school.

•          Where children or staff test positive, having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since being in setting/school, the setting/school should not be contacted.  Parents and carers should follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.

You aren’t expected to be on-call all the time.  Staff responsible for contact tracing may designate a limited time each day to receive notifications of positive cases and to advise close contacts to isolate.  This can be done via text or email.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to minimising the transmission of the virus in MK.

Transmission of COVID-19 between staff

Nationally, the highest rate of transmission in schools and settings is from adult to adult.

It’s very important that staff continue to recognise the importance of maintaining a social distance from other adults - even those within the same bubble.

Whilst the national guidance is to stay 2 metres apart, ideally staff should only get as close as is absolutely necessary and for the least amount of time possible.

It’s also extremely important to continue minimising the use of shared staff spaces and to continue being rigorous with the frequent cleaning of contact points.  All staff are not expected to be on site at the same time unless this is essential.

Hands, Face, Space should always continue to be observed .

MK weekly COVID-19 summary

Please view our weekly snapshot of provision that we’re using to monitor demand and capacity in MK schools.  We’re using this to ensure that there are always places for the pupils and families who need them.

For the very latest on COVID-19 in Milton Keynes, you can also watch this week’s video update with Council Leader Pete Marland.

MKC guidance re: LFD testing in schools, maintained nursery settings and nursery schools (home testing)

To support you and your colleagues to understand the processes required for Lateral Flow Device (LFD) testing, we’ve created some flowcharts that we hope you find useful:

Further information about the use of LFD testing in primary schools, maintained nurseries and nursery schools can be found on the primary schools document sharing platform.

Secondary schools, special schools and colleges should access information about testing on the schools and colleges document sharing platform.

Please continue to use the MK online form to report confirmed cases of COVID-19 in staff or pupils who are attending setting/school.  This should be done irrespective of whether the positive result came from an LFD or PCR test.

Lateral Flow Device Testing (LFDT) at Central Library MK

For early years setting staff and childminders

We’ve opened a rapid COVID-19 testing centre for frontline workers at the Central Library.  The scheme, which uses a lateral flow test to give a result within 30 minutes, is now open to the staff of MKC early years settings and childminders.

The centre is open from:

9.30am to 4.30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

New - Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 am-7:00pm (from week beginning 1 February)

You cannot book, you just need to turn up and wait. You’ll need to bring your smartphone with you to complete a five-minute pre-registration form, and your test result will be sent to you by text message shortly afterwards.  Please wear a mask and observe social distancing at all times.

Testing at the Central library is for those frontline EY providers who may be asymptomatic. It will pick up those who are infected and not showing symptoms.

LFDT is not for those with suspected Coronavirus symptoms – they must follow Government guidance. Those showing symptoms must not go to the MK Central Library.
