Dear Colleagues,

I hope you find the information in this edition of EYE useful. As always, please contact me if you need advice or guidance regarding EYFS.

We’ve updated the flowchart for schools and settings that outlines the local process that must be followed for confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Please save the latest version now, for future reference, and share it with staff.

Remember, you only need to use the online form to report confirmed cases in staff or pupils who are attending school. You don’t need to report confirmed cases in staff or pupils who aren’t accessing school - because they will engage with NHS Track and Trace.

If you have a confirmed case of Covid – 19 and you need guidance, please contact me as the Key Education Contact for settings on 01908 254929 or 075 865 542 79.

If you are unable to contact me, please ring Jenny Bargrove on 01908 254071/254509 or 075 573 135 37

Best wishes

Belinda Woodcock

End of the half term

Thank you for all your continued hard work on behalf of the children and young people of Milton Keynes.

We don’t yet know what next half term will bring and in these strange, uncertain times we do know that we’ll all need our stamina.

We hope those of you who can, manage to get some downtime next week and have a happy and restful break. To those of you who are continuing to work through the school holiday, we hope you get a break soon.

There will be no EYE in half term, the next issue will be sent in the week commencing Monday 22 February.

DfE guidance

Emergency planning and response

The DfE has updated their emergency planning and response guidance.  This outlines how schools and other educational settings should plan for a deal with emergencies such as severe weather and floods. The update includes information about COVID-19.

Please remember that there is also business continuity information for school settings under the risk and resilience section of the main MKC website.  This includes templates that have been designed to support you in formulating your own business continuity plans.

MKC services

MK weekly COVID-19 summary

Please view our weekly snapshot of provision that we’re using to monitor demand and capacity in MK settings and schools.  We’re using this to ensure that there are always places for the children and families who need them.

Early Years attendance reporting

Thank you for continuing to complete your daily DfE setting status forms by the noon every Thursday. Your support means that we have accurate information from the DfE to draw upon.

For the very latest on COVID-19 in Milton Keynes, you can also watch this week’s video update with Council Leader Pete Marland.

SEND news

The SEND Support Line will remain open during half term from 10.00am – 3.00pm Monday to Friday.  The support line is open to settings/schools, parents/carers and professionals for support, advice and general SEND enquiries.

You can contact the team in one of the following ways:

Reformed EYFS – September 2021

Early Adopters of the reformed EYFS (schools) and changes in Early Years

Following on from the recent DfE webinar for local authorities about changes that are coming regarding EYFS, EYFSP, moderation, Ofsted inspections and the revised Development Matters, plans are being made to offer schools and providers information briefing meetings. These will help all settings prepare for September.

Please look out for dates and times in the next EYE.

Useful info

'The Big Lockdown-Learning Parent Survey'

The Big Lockdown-Learning Parent Survey has just been launched by the EEF, working with Teacher Tapp and Parent Ping.

The aim is to find out what learning is/isn't happening at home while many pupils are unable to attend school in the normal way due to Covid-19.

EEF would like your help in getting the survey to parents and carers.  The more parents and carers engage, the better the validity of the findings will be – which will benefit everyone in the long run.

MKC covid19forschools (and settings) webpages

We’re glad that the webpages continue to be helpful.  Please remember that the webpages contain more information than we can provide here.

Please continue to forward this newsletter to relevant colleagues.  You can also contact EY Enquiries if you wish to add any colleagues.

For weekly video updates from Council Leader Pete Marland, plus weekly data slides, please visit our Covid Outbreak Control page.

By working together and keeping each other well informed, we can reduce anxiety and workload across the MK education system.

Thank you
