Dear Colleagues,

I hope you find the information in this edition of EYE useful. As always, please contact me if you need advice or guidance regarding EYFS.

Reminder

We’ve updated the SYMPTOMATIC AND CONFIRMED CASES flowchart for MK schools and settings (PDF) that outlines the local process that must be followed for confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Please save the latest version now, for future reference, and share it with staff.

Remember, you only need to use the online form to report confirmed cases in staff or children who are attending setting/school. You don’t need to report confirmed cases in staff or children who aren’t accessing setting/school - because they will engage with NHS Track and Trace.

If you have a confirmed case of Covid – 19 and you need guidance, please contact me as the Key Education Contact for settings on 01908 254929 or 075 865 542 79.

If you are unable to contact me, please ring Jenny Bargrove on 01908 254071/254509 or 075 573 135 37

Best wishes

Belinda Woodcock

Announcements

Information about the future of the Early Years Essential (EYE)

As you’ll have noticed, there was no EYE last week. It will be issued fortnightly, on a trial basis, for the remainder of the term.

Now seems the right time to review the content, style and frequency of this e-newsletter to ensure that it continues to be effective in meeting your needs. After all, we’re getting used to a ‘new norm’ and part of this is recognising that what was needed this time last year is not necessarily what is needed moving forward.

To inform our planning for the future, we’d welcome your views. In the next issue of EYE (week commencing 10 May) we’ll share with you a survey monkey link. Please do look out for this as we welcome your views about the future of this communication channel. Thank you.

As always, please contact me if you have any early years questions and remember you can contact us through the early years enquiries phone line on 01908 254509.

Thank you

The reformed EYFS (September 2021)

We are please to offer additional information meetings and training – please see below for details and helpful resources.

LFD test supply and delivery

Asymptomatic testing in early years

How staff in early years settings can access regular rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing

Rapid asymptomatic testing in early years settings guidance has been updated to reflect that asymptomatic testing is now available to everyone in England. We have also clarified where staff, parents or carers may be eligible for Test and Trace support payments.

Ordering test kits for Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) Nurseries

The process for how PVI nurseries order test kits is changing from Thursday 29 April.  Anew online system for ordering test kits for testing at home will be introduced. This means that providers will be able to re-order test kits and better manage stock levels and deliveries.

PVI settings will automatically receive a delivery of testing kits on Thursday 6 May, Friday 7 May or Monday 10 May. This delivery will be the final automatic delivery and should provide settings with sufficient testing kits to last until the end of May. After this settings will need to use the new ordering system to order further test kits.

Settings will receive a welcome email in the next few days containing a Unique Organisation Number (UON). Settings can also find UON using the unique organisation number lookup form.  UON will enable settings to place orders for test kits using the new online ordering system.

Settings will need to consider current stock levels and testing demands before placing any order to ensure that the order placed meets testing needs.

Testing kit supplies can be ordered using the order coronavirus (COVID-19) tests for setting online form.

For further information on how to place an order, please refer to the ordering guidance available on the primary schools and nurseries document sharing platform.

Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) – June 2021

EYFSP surgery

As you know, schools do not need to do the EYFSP assessment this year but may choose to do so using their best endeavours. A surgery has been arranged for those schools who are doing EYFSP and have questions regarding their EYFSP assessment. Schools do not need to submit EYFSP data to the LA this year 2021.

If you would like to attend the surgery, please contact Jennifer Bargrove to book a slot. You will need to have read the relevant EYFS/P documentation and have your questions ready before attending the surgery.

The remote surgery is free to MK schools and will be held through Teams.

Focus on Fundamentals” – EMA Network training sessions

There has been a lot of news this week about Lockdowns hurting children’s speech and language skills. The EMA network “Focus on Fundamentals” sessions are a great way to raise staff awareness of strategies that can be used to help address some of the gaps.

More information can be found in the EMA Summer Flyer (PDF, 162KB) . The information has already been sent to EMACos but it’s important to recognise that the training is relevant for all teachers.
